a planned appendix of my dissertation
The chronology of Delphi in the Hellenistic Period is a notorious chaos.
The names and order of months at Delphi are relatively clear: it is a normal lunisolar year, beginning on the first new moon after the summer solstice (22 or 23 June).
| Order | Month Name | Tian-gan | Gregorian months (mostly) | | – | – | – | – | | 1 | Apellaios | 午 | July | | 2 | Boucatios | 未 | August | | 3 | Boathoos | 申 | September | | 4 | Heraios | 酉 | October |
One of the best parallel examples on the dating methodology is also at Delphi: the polygonal wall (SD 329).
